Mexico Tech [officially, New Mexico Institute of Mining
and Technology] was originally founded in 1889 as the New Mexico
School of Mines. Over the years, its mission has expanded, and New Mexico Tech is now an outstanding research university, specializing in areas of science,
engineering, and related fields.
Students come to Tech for its outstanding
academic reputation, one-to-one mentoring relationship with professors,
hands-on laboratory learning experiences, opportunities for on-campus
employment in one of the many research facilities or with Tech's research
faculty, and beautiful Southwestern setting.
New Mexico Tech is a world leader in many
areas of research, including hydrology, astrophysics, atmospheric physics,
geophysics, homeland security, information technology, geosciences,
energetic materials engineering, and petroleum recovery.
Research facilities include the State Bureau of Mines and Minerals, EMRTC explosives and rocket testing facilities, Langmuir Atmospheric Lightning Research Lab plus many more.
NMT's Mineral Museum houses one of the most complete mineral collections in the United States. It is free and open Monday through Saturday.
