Cibola National Forest
The portion of the Cibola National Forest in Old West Country contains the Datil and Gallinas Mountains north of the communities of Datil and Magdalena. The Apache Kid Wilderness lies within the forest.

Aldo Leopold Wilderness
The Aldo Leopold Wilderness now contains a total of 202,016 acres and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. All of the wilderness is in the state of New Mexico and together with the Gila Wilderness and Blue range Wilderness are within the Gila National Forest. There is one other designated wilderness areas within Old West Country: Apache Kid Wilderness near Socorro and Magdalena.

Chloride / Pioneer Store & Gallery
Chloride offers a Historic District with the"Hanging Tree" in the center of mainstreet. The Pioneer Store & Gallery is in a retored mercantile that once supplied miners and early residents with goods.

Catwalk
The Catwalk National Scenic Trail offers a fascinating glimpse into the geologic and historic foundations of southwest New Mexico. The result of cataclysmic volcanic actions, the area now offers a beautiful picnic spot next to Whitewater Creek, a challenging one-mile trail along the historic 1890's mining waterway, and a sense of place that creates images of an earlier time.
